social media

For better or worse, social media has become an incredibly important part of human interaction over the past few years. It allows for instantaneous, easy communication, and is a way that anyone can exchange their ideas for an audience of intimate friends or random strangers. The inclusiveness of social media means that anyone with an internet connection can sign up for Facebook or Twitter, and with this inclusiveness comes the likelihood that some people may not be using social media properly. Whether it's the rookie who's still figuring it out, or the veteran who has blown by warnings from friends that they are acting incorrectly, not everyone aces social media. There are distinct rules of etiquette that one should follow online and, hopefully, the following list can help!

Have A Profile Picture Of YOU

People want to know that they are talking to the real you, and an updated profile picture of yourself helps add some intimacy to the conversation. The rabid muscular, red-eyed bear with the caption "PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THESE BEARS!" does little to help increase your familiarity or personal brand.

Make Sure To Check For Grammar

Poor spelling and grammar looks sloppy and makes it seem like you don't care. The status: "Plaese help me..BEARS (there ARE FOUR NOW) are inside my HOUSE,.., i am hidingin the closet. tWO of bears ois coverd in HUMAN BLOOD...PLEASE TELL THE POLICE!!! Ther ARE OTHER BEARS ROAMING THE CTWON, WANTIN HUMAN BLood. PLEASE STAY SAFE AND LOOK outWHAT KIND OF GOD wiould alow this to happen." Um, what? Whenever I see a post that contains misspellings, I blow right past it. It makes me think if that person didn't care enough to proofread, why should I care at all?
