Big changes are in store at GucciAlessandro Michele has officially been appointed creative director of the Italian fashion house.

Michele's appointment comes fresh off the heels of former Gucci creative director, Frida Giannini's sudden departure from the house. Before the appointment, Michele was operating as Gucci's head accessories designer.

Michele's appointment comes amidst rumors that Giannini would have been replaced by Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci, Saint Larent's Hedi Slimane, and even former Gucci creative director Tom Ford.

Giannini's early exit proved to be a power move for Michele, who helped redesign and debut Gucci's menswear collection—which showed to critical success in Milan on Monday—days before it was meant to show. This new appointment is a strategic move by parent company Kering, which is aiming to inject a youthful perspective in the now lagging luxury label.
