Opening Ceremony And Intel Debut Their Wearable Tech Accessory

None

Yesterday, the folks over at Style dot com got the exclusive on the Opening Ceremony and Intel collaboration that has been teased for almost a year now. Instead of calling this a "smartwatch" or some other super swagless term for wearable tech, they're going with "MICA" which stands for My Intelligent Communication Accessory. Wow. Okay. Whatever

Naturally, this is being hailed as the best piece of fashionable, wearable tech yet, which I guess is understandable? It's much easier to make an attractive piece of tech if fashion people are actually involved. Rather than being a shitty piece of black plastic like Nike's Fuelband or made of a sterile rubber like like a Jawbone or Fitbit, the MICA has snakeskin on one side and a touchscreen on the other with little jewel embellishment. Oh, you fancy huh? Though the MICA is aimed at women, gender labels have never stopped us before, right? I have super dainty wrists anyway, so I would definitely fit into this thing.

Still, there are no actual details on what the MICA will actually do, though an Intel rep confirmed it will let users communicate with friends and mentions that it's not just a dressed-up fitness band. No official price tag yet either, though it will retail for less than $1,000. Fun, exciting stuff! The MICA will be carried in-store at Opening Ceremony and Barneys this coming December. Get ready, guys! Real wearable fashion tech is (finally) here!
