The adidas adiZero Primeknit sounds uncannily familiar to a certain other shoe we've been talking a lot about, and for good reason. They incorporate the same knitting technology as Nike's much hyped Flyknit, but adidas has certainly injected their own flavor with subtle design differences (which, personally, I find more appealing). The Primeknit's design is more streamlined with a sleeker silhouette, and clearly looks less technical than their Nike counterparts. The Flyknit has unfortunately got them one-upped on colorways, so if you're not a fan of red kicks you're shit out of luck for the time being. To adidas's credit, they began this project back in 2008 setting out to simplify the process of creating a shoe while also reducing its weight. The Primeknit officially launched last week to coincide with the London Olympics and Highsnobiety sat down with James Carnes, Head of Design for Sport Performance at adidas, to talk about its development and how this nascent technology could completely turn the footwear industry on its head in years to come. So while we're all simultaneously foaming at the mouth over Nike's Flyknits, let's pause for a moment and give adidas a fair chance at blog fame and appreciate their own portrayal of running shoes' next evolution.
