Adidas had been building toward last night for the past couple of weeks. A bunch of people in the industry received a vague, slightly ominous invitation to an event on December 9th that was simply labeled "NMD." No one really knew what it was and of course the immediate rumor mill spit out whispers of a Kanye appearance. But considering Saint West was born, like, two days ago, that didn't happen. What did happen was the introduction of a brand new sneaker, the NMD.

You can see the shots of the new shoe right here. It's basically a lifestyle sneaker that takes inspiration from a lot of the technical aspects of past Adidas shoes. The design team went into the archives and looked at shoes like the Micropacer, Rising Sun and Boston Super to bring the past into the present. A Primeknit upper with Boost midsole, color blocked sections along that midsole and a small heel cup, the NMD isn't a re-issue of an older model or an update. It's brand new. And as brands look toward the future of footwear and what it will look like, that's pretty exciting. We don't have to wait long either. The NMD releases this week. A reflective Consortium NMD drops today for $180 at select Consortium stores and the wider NMD release comes Saturday for $170. Adidas will also offer reservations through the Confirmed app starting today.
